XC Regionals/Sectionals

Post by SMmustang82 »

Any thoughts on upcoming state series. Regionals are sort of blah. 1A boys: I would expect Elmwood (#3 in state), EPG, Eureka, Stanford Olympia , and Deer Creek will advance to state meet on 11-3. In 2A: Bloomington HS (#2 in in coaches poll), Washington, Metamora seem like locks. Not sure on other two. PND? Mahomet-Seymour? I am basing my 2A predictions on the coaches poll found at ILXCTF--not through any great insight of mine. 1A I am pretty sure of.

IHSA "geography" at its finest in the Peoria area:

Macomb Regional
Abingdon (A.-Avon)
*Astoria [Coop]
Bushnell (B.-Prairie City)
*Carthage (Illini West)
Delavan [Coop]
Elmwood [Coop]
*Glasford (Illini Bluffs)
Hamilton [Coop]
Havana
Knoxville
Lewistown
Macomb
Manito (Midwest Central)
Mason City (Illini Central)
Monmouth (M.-Roseville)
*Monmouth (United)
Princeville
Rushville (R.-Industry)

Farmington Regional
Bloomington (Central Catholic)
*Bloomington (Cornerstone Christian Academy)
Chillicothe (Illinois Valley Central)
Clinton
*Colfax (Ridgeview)
Downs (Tri-Valley) [Coop]
El Paso (E.P.-Gridley)
Eureka
Fairbury (Prairie Central)
Farmington
Heyworth
Mackinaw (Deer Creek-M.)
*Peoria (P. Christian)
Peoria Heights
Stanford (Olympia)
Tremont

Yet IB, Elmwood/Brimfield, and Princeville are SE and NE (respectively) from Farmington yet are shipped to Macomb--even the individual entries from IB. And with Elmwood only 6 miles or so away from Farmington.

Have to draw the line somewhere. IHSA has a no win situation with these situations. They do their best to even out the numbers. In 2A Champaign Central and Champaign Centennial are in different sectionals! Run your race, get the job done, and everyone meets at Detweiller!

I will say this, the schools in the Farmington Regional are closer to Farmington than they are to Macomb.... at least I think. Elmwood gets to host a sectional so they are probably ok with it. However, with a new course, times are meaningless, not to mention 20-25 mile per hour winds that are expected. Farmington Regional is much more competitive.
