Steffen is in the net for City vs. Bournemouth in today's EFL Cup, and 17-year old Liam Delap is making his first-team debut with the club, scoring the opening goal in the match, but Bournemouth has equalized and it's 1:1 32'

Seeing this Everton team play these first few matches are a night and day difference compared to what they've shown the past few seasons.

First 3-win start in the PL since 1993-94 for the Toffees. Somewhere Roger Bennett is smiling.

And Calvert-Lewin is in the VERY early running for the Golden Boot. He keeps this up he might end up with 20 goals this season.

They host Brighton & Hove Albion next weekend and then host the Merseyside derby after the international break.

Man City is a trainwreck today. . .3 penalties (a PL record for a home team), Jamie Vardy has 3 goals, and Leicester cruising 5:2. . .

Things seemed to have started well for City with the opening goal and an apparent second, which was called off for offsides.

Then the first penalty almost immediately after that, and once Leicester was on the board, they dominated the match in every way.

But City has 7 regulars out to injury/illness at the moment. So still a bad result, but one that isn't as alarming as it seems.

Out of 25 PL matches on the young season, there are 21 penalties.

Vardy breathing down his neck with today's hat trick. Had he not been subbed before the third penalty today, he'd likely have caught up.

Everton, Man City, and Man United all cruise to victory today in the EFL Cup, but Newcastle was pushed to PKs by League Two Newport County, with the Magpies emerging 5-4 on PKs.

Spurs and Chelsea went to PKs yesterday, with Spurs winning 5-4.

Liverpool-Arsenal headline the final day of the R16, while Fulham and Aston Villa each face Championship sides.

Everton defeats Brighton & Hove Albion 4:2 today. First time for the Toffees have won their first 4 matches in a Premier League season and the first time they've done it in any season since the 1969-70 season when they were playing in the then Football League First Division. Everton side that season ended up winning their 7th league title.

Lol. Might as well. Roger Bennett's twitter feed has been quite a thing to see in all this.

Yerry Mina's goal today that got an assist from James was the first goal in Premier League history to be both scored and assisted by a Colombian.

Yeah great trio of assists he had-debating on starting a Bundesliga thread. Not certain I'll be able to keep it going, but this is going to be an important year for young American players. . .Reyna is a stud.

Defender Dest moved to Barcelona and Wes McKinnie is at Juventus which is an interesting undercard for Americans beyond Messi-Ronaldo in the Champions League. Tyler Adams will continue to be a key player for Leipzig as will Josh Sargent for Bremen (Sargent has started 3 straight matches).

In the PL, Pulisic is back, Steffen will have an opportunity to earn more time in net at City. Reggie Cannon is the #1 in goal for a not very good team in Portugal.

Might be one of the worst Manchester United performances in a long while today.

At least since the 6-1 City win at Old Trafford in 2011-12, aka the "Why Always Me" game which tells me how long I've used my profile avatar.

If you think that's bad, you oughta check out the scoreline of the Aston Villa-Liverpool match.

Tomorrow will be 10 years to the day of Everton's last win in the Merseyside derby, also at Goodison Park which is where tomorrow's derby will played. Goals in that game for Toffees were scored by Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta.

And of course with Premier League scheduling, tomorrow's Merseyside derby has a 6:30 AM CT kickoff time.

I wouldn't blame Liverpool supporters if they were upset with today's result in the 2:2 Merseyside derby draw as Pickford likely should have been red carded for a challenge on Van Dijk early on and then a VAR reveral to an offside of what appeared to be a good goal by Liverpool late.

Amazing result for West Ham v Tottenham. Down 3-0 at half. Down 3-0 into the 82nd minute. Then a goal, own goal and tying goal in the 94th minute to take a point at Tottenham.
