Freshman debut
Freshman debut
I was inspired by Hannah’s debut/coming out and made me think back 35 plus years to other debuts.....
The one that jumps out to me was Anthony Manuel.....
Anyone have one that they recall fondly....

How are we defining debut? This wasn't a debut was it?

Mitchell Anderson had one of the best freshman campaigns in Bradley history. He was brought in by Versace to be "The Man" and was given the green light from day one. I don't recall his debut game but he averaged over 20 PPG his freshman year.
And yes, I'm THAT old.

It sounds to me like the all time greats did really well from the get go... this is some breakthrough stuff.
Re: Freshman debut
It wasn't the first game, but Fred Atkins had a 6-of-9 game from 3 against Oakland (then in their first year of reclassification to DI) as a frosh in a 20-point effort.

Re: Freshman debut
Besides his rebound total the kid had ZERO turnovers in 19 minutes! The only blemish is his FTs.

Re: Freshman debut
I wondered about Hersey’s debut stats (I couldn’t easily find game stats but he averaged high 30MPG so he obviously played quite well).
Hersey has finally been selected for the national college HOF:

Hawk scored 20 in his first game, a 12-point loss @ Loyola. Ramblers were led be Alfredrick Hughes and were beginning a Sweet 16 season (one of 2 in-states in the Sweet 16 that season, along with Illinois. Illinois State reached the second round, but lost to Oklahoma.)
