This would be a really smart hire. St Johns needs to get over itself and make the smart choice here.

Wasn’t Doc Sadler let go at Nebraska. And why would he want an assistant job?

He was fired by Nebraska, but he also wasn't terrible there. . .

Biggest reason is probably money & stress. . .

At Southern Miss, he's making about $350K (which is surprising low). Nebraska is ramping up assistant pay, from a little over $250K to the $350-400K range, plus bonus incentives:

15 percent of salary for a Big Ten title (regular or postseason), plus the greatest of
*10 percent of salary for an NCAA Tournament appearance
*15 percent of salary for making the Sweet 16
*20 percent of salary for making the Final Four
*25 percent of salary if NU wins the national title

He was head coach of Nebraska from '06 to '12. Made the NIT 3 times, but never made NCAA. He was also an assistant under Hoiberg at Iowa State during one of their sweet 16 years, the '13-14 season.

McAuley was an assistant at Wofford the last 2 years and previously was part of Niko Medved's staff at Furman and Chris Holtmann's staff at Gardner-Webb.

Didn't figure Wofford needed to look further than their own bench.

Will Wade gets to keep his job at LSU.

Utah Valley has hired Lakers assistant Mark Madsen as their new coach. Madsen was on the Stanford team that played Bradley in the 1996 NCAA Tournament and helped lead the Cardinal to their 1998 Final Four appearance. Most of his coaching has been in the professional ranks since retiring from playing in 2009, but he was an assistant at Stanford from 2012-13. He just completed a 6-year run as an assistant with the Lakers, following a portion of a season where he was head coach of their D-League team.

It looks like Idaho State is down to 3 finalists, including recently fired Ohio U coach Saul Phillips, Nevada assistant Gus Argenal, and an unknown third candidate. They initially were to interview 4 candidates, including Danya Kingsby's JUCO coach Jared Phay (Southern Idaho), and an unidentified DII coach that "won 30 games" this season. So it's unclear which of the latter two is a finalist.

St. John's would likely double Porter's salary.

Loyola would likely lose some players - both current and incoming - if he bolted.

I'm not wishing for him to leave - our league should be (and needs to be) a multi-bid league next year. Despite their departures, Loyola would be a contender with their strong core and incoming class.

BUT - Instability at the 2 time defending league champs would further the argument this is OUR TIME to take this league by the horns and never look back.

It's OUR TIME (cue the music)...

START. GAME.

“Bradley is a dream job for me. Why Bradley? It’s very simple. I knew all about Bradley growing up. I played at Carver Arena a couple of times. We didn’t win those games, but I plan on winning a lot there in the future.” - Brian Wardle, March 27, 2015

Porter would be smart to take it and Loyola would be smart to not try and match any offer.

People keep saying it as though Loyola could write a blank check or match the zeroes...I dont think thats even remotely possible.

And yes, he should take it. Where he is right now, he isnt gonna get any hotter at Loyola, and he's now over 50, take the payday.

UNLV was one thing. SJ is in a whole other ballgame.
