With this format, it appears that there will be an admission charge for each session? However I do like the Saturday finals. I have advocated for a championship Saturday for a long while.

I agree, championship Saturday will be nice and hopefully draw some fans. However, the Thursday and Friday nights, with potential larger viewing and in house attendance than earlier games, will feature sloppy third place games from teams that are tired from playing earlier in the day. You probably are not going to see the highest quality ball in the evening sessions. I also wonder what kind of crowd turnout for these games will be? It will be interesting to see because something needed to be done about the dwindling crowds and interest...maybe this new format will help.

We should all remember a long, long time ago....(insert Star Wars music) when teams had to play two games on CHAMPIONSHIP day at the State Tournament in the 2 class system. I don't see it as a big deal that the 3rd place game is being played the same day. I think they are trying to limit the travel and expenses for teams. Think about this, if a team loses the semifinal game, how many of their fans will stay and/or travel back a day later to watch them play in a non-title game? Get them their game in, hopefully still win a trophy, and head home. Winners get a rest and recharge for the final push.

We should all remember a long, long time ago....(insert Star Wars music) when teams had to play two games on CHAMPIONSHIP day at the State Tournament in the 2 class system.

I was there for the Triple OT state semifinal game in 2000 between Plains and Riverton. Hawks had to turn around and play in the 3rd place game basically 90 minutes later.

Win Thursday, 3 day weekend.
Lose Thursday morning, Go home that night.

I guess it might be strange that there would be nothing for these teams on Friday if they are not local 1A/2A teams. (Would local teams just go home Thursday and come back early Saturday?) Would the 1A/2A teams go and watch the 3A/4A games on Friday?

I hope Peoria gets the new contract. Better area with hotels, food and activities. Speaking of activities, the Civic Center has more room for kid activities that make the experience more enjoyable. I think Champaign would be a mistake.

While I get where you're coming from, the hotels in the Peoria area are price gouging in much the same way the Champaign hotels did before they lost the tournament. One of the hotels I saw in a recent Priceline search was asking for close to $200/night for the weekend of the state tournament.

And while the attendance issues in recent years would look far worse in the renovated State Farm Center, I think it's gonna be tough for Peoria to keep it with one of their biggest supporters having moved their headquarters out of the area.

In fact I will take CU’s food scene every day of the week over Peoria.

“Informed word” I got was Peoria should feel good largely due to CU hotel “gouging.” Wrestling event was test and hotels failed.
