Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament 2019

Post by illini25 »

Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament 2019
December 26 - 28

One change this year with Roselle Lake Park replacing Freeport. Lake Park was a 2019 4A regional champion so should be a positive addition. Last year’s new team, Pattonville (MO), won 2 PIHT games playing mostly juniors, sophomores and freshmen and expects to be improved this year.

Looking forward to this year’s tourney.

Did I see correctly? Morton scored 15 in one game? Yikes
The more you sweat in practice, the less you bleed in battle.

Yeah, I saw that. Really brutal to score only 15 points...Potters did not have a very good tournament overall. I also thought Pekin did not play very well either. Lackluster in win against Plainfield, struggled to beat a 4-9 Hersey team in overtime and lost to Washington after scoring no points in the second quarter. A really well run tournament by some really dedicated volunteers. The championship game was exciting. That said, there did not seem to be any great teams or players this year. Lake Park is good but not great...Lanphier played well and are a nice team but I don't see either team going to state. I still enjoyed going and seeing old friends.

Thank you for your attendance!
Thursday evening, Friday afternoon, Friday evening and Saturday evening were all very well attended.

There’s nothing like 8 AM to 11:30 PM unpaid work days! :D

The attendance for Fridays Pekin game was very good! Illini. I did not get to championship game, how was the turnout for the that game and the 3rd place game? And how was the overall tournament attendance this year compared to the last few years? Were you guys happy with the turnout? Also, does the PHT turn a profit (even a small one)? Anyway, as always the entire staff for the tournament did their usual great job! Many of us that go (been going myself for almost 50 years!) appreciate the time and effort you all put into the tournament....

CIS, Saturday evening session was well attended. Gate numbers were not available yet but I’m certain we surpassed last year’s attendance. Lanphier always brings decent crowd when they’re in title game. Lake Park had a decent following. I think it helped greatly that Lake Park’s head coach and associate head coach both coached other teams previously in PIHT and enjoy the tournament.

With regards to profitability, I will say the District #303 school board wants the tournament to stand on its own. Without use of the facilities granted by PCHS, Pekin Insurance and the other sponsors, ticket sales wouldn’t sustain the event.

Lanphier, Normal West and Lake Park all advance tonight. Boylan plays Wednesday.

Love the representation!

Normal West entered PIHT at 1-7. After watching them twice I noted that they were about the best 1-7 team I’d ever seen.

I wish Pekin had won the Moline regional. They would have been playing at home tonight! :( Normal West has pulled off some wins but the train ride ends on Friday - no way in hades they beat Collinsville!
