Two-time state QB transferring to Chatham Glenwood

Post by Bluejaygrad03 » Fri Jul 05, 2019 10:44 pm

https://herald-review.com/sports/high-s ... 01761.html

Ian Benner, who has been Maroa-Forsyth's starting QB and led them to 2A state title game appearances the past two seasons, announced today that he will transfer to Chatham Glenwood for his senior season.

Glenwood already had an all-state QB returning in Luke Lehnen and that coupled with RB Jason Hansbrough and a transfer RB from Lanphier along with what they already had returning at WR and a team that went 8-1 last year has an offense that could be scary good to watch this fall.

.Don't forget his brother Madixx who will be a freshman. Quite an athlete in multiple sports. It's been a long sixteen years.

Well in Benner's case, I think it was partially that he wanted to prove himself to college scouts against 5A and 6A competition. Plus he's also apparently a pretty good baseball player and plays during the summer on a team with a lot of the players from Chatham.

It appears Chatham will be on my list of destinations this year. Suggestions for which game????

Well, here's their list of home games:
-Week 2: SHG
-Week 3: Springfield High
-Week 6: MacArthur
-Week 8: Southeast
-Week 9: Rochester

I'd say Week 2 or Week 9 will be your best bets. Week 3 or Week 6 might be worth checking out if you have nothing else to do. Week 8 might be the only dud though Southeast may still be fighting for a playoff spot at that point.

If you haven't decided on Week 1 yet, I have a few suggestions for you once it gets to that point.

You better believe it!!

Best decision I ever made. Even if the game is a clunker I still see new schools, new towns, new people, etc.

GBG-You should do a review at some point. Kind of like a travel reporter. While I was a student at WIU and made that dreadful Peoria to Macomb trip too many times as I passed some of the small school football stadiums along the way I often wondered what it would be like to see a game there. Maybe I need to pick one of those out and go some time. Small school football is a bit more fun because it really is a community event.

Our trips to Stark County were always some of the best. By far the best food service and selection you will ever find.

Relocated to the St. Louis area. Looking forward to checking out HS games in the area. Anyone interested in reports on Christian Brothers, Vianney, Ladue Horton Watkins, Trinity, De Smet and others along with ESL, Edwardsville and some others on the Illinois side?

Appreciate it Knight. I'm a Bird at heart but updates on anyone in the MI or B12 is great. I'm expecting big things from Peoria High (sorry). Looking forward to getting to see ESL who everyone down here is talking about. St. Louis has several Mizzo powers I want to see so it should be fun.

.The Flyers as is usually the case are loaded this season. One of the better teams in the the entire state regardless of class size. With an enrollment of 1262.00 and no longer able to petition up they are on the bubble between class 5A and 6A. The preseason Associated Press top ten poll among the eight classes will be coming out next week. Not positive but ESL likely will be at this point in time 6A. However as teams are eliminated throughout the regular season for the playoffs and schools shift up and down in those eight classes when the 256 postseason qualifiers are announced they could drop into 5A. Regardless what class the Flyers land in they will be a very difficult team to beat. And will be in the southern bracket of 16.

.That is correct in all sports. Many thought although never really proven it was football driven. In the past both Edwardsville and Belleville (West) besides their regular season conference game would end up playing the Flyers in the postseason although the Tigers are 2-1 and the Maroons 1-1 (a forfeit win) against them in 7A playoff action. If ESL is not allowed to petition up it's a potential major obstacle out the way in the south bracket.
