Granted it will likely be just for a year but Notre Dame hired Marcus Freeman who is regarded as one of the best DC‘s in the nation. He had interviewed for both ND and LSU and also had strong interest from Texas

I didn’t think anybody could pull him away from Fickell. Their families are extremely close. That is a great hire.

I have tempered expectations just because I expect a short stay and ND shouldn’t be all that great next year. My guess is Fickell gets a different head coaching position next year and he replaces him

I see don brown will be DC at Arizona. Was he fired from Michigan or did he just bolt?

I don’t see Fickell leaving Cincy unless it is a high quality job. I don’t think he will take a job like Tennessee where he knows it is incredibly difficult to be successful. He can win a lot of games at Cincy while he hopes for Ohio State to open up one day.

It would be tough to pass on doubling your money, but maybe he'll sit and wait.

You have to think long term money versus short term. Take a sure to fail job and you will get a nice salary for 3-4 years and then be fired. He could coach at Cincy and have a lot of success for a very long time like Peterson did at Boise. Then he cashed in on his dream job at Washington. I think Fickell takes a similar route.

I think Fickell would go for Notre Dame. I could see Penn State. He seems like a Midwest guy.

5-10 years from now maybe that changes but I just don’t think he is in a rush to just accept any so called big power 5 job.

Notre Dame might have been just in time on Freeman. Rumors are that Mattison might retire.
