I'm laughing so hard at CUSA right now. Remember their genius scheduling idea?

They did it. How many Q1/2 games did ODU get in conference as a result?

0.

How many Q1/2 games did the other teams in the top group get as a result?

At least 4.

Besides ODU, 3 other teams qualified for Q2 status on the road. ODU got all of them at home during "regular" conference play, then didn't get a single one at home during group play because of the random home/away assignments. Meanwhile, ODU did play the #139 and #140 NET teams twice on the road each, missing out on 4 Q2 games by 4 and 5 ranking spots.

If you literally flipped the home/away designation on each game ODU was scheduled to play, and change Q2 to include Top 140 instead of Top 135, ODU adds 9 (NINE!!!!!) more Q2 games to its schedule.

They played only 3 Q1/2 games this year.
Well it was worth trying. Probably worth trying one more year. But I never thought it would work. Interesting concept. Wasn't there another league that was doing it as well?

Fun Belt, but they didn't start it this year.
That's enough, Reggie Miller.

That's enough, Chris Webber.

It got buried on the last page as it quickly bounced over to a new page. . .

Is this scheme also how/why Rice and Charlotte played three times?

Yeah, the third group had just 4 teams instead of 5 so they had to add a 3rd matchup to fill it up.

IMO, Unless a team wins their conference title, a team that cannot finish at least .500 in their conference doesn’t deserve a mention in the big dance. To me it is just obsurd a team can be 6-12 in a major conference yet be in the conversation as an at large.

The Big West nearly went chalk today, but 5 seed Long Beach State hit a buzzerbeater to upend 4 seed Hawai'i. The Big West never goes chalk.

TAS, I know you usually have a post (either on here or on your blog) about how they decide who went where based on geography and all that so I have one quick question.

How is it that Minnesota and Michigan State are playing in the 2nd round against each other? I thought that the NCAA usually split conference foes apart so they wouldn't face until the elite 8 at the earliest (save the year the Super Big East got like 2/3 of their conference) but these two will be playing each other on Saturday. I also thought it was curious how Minnesota got podded into Des Moines which would make them the closest out of any of the teams in that part of the bracket to the venue.

The NCAA has gotten too fancy with their procedures.

Conference foes can play in the round of 32 if they only played once during the season. They needed that rule because conferences are too large and they needed flexibility.

It was supposed to be a "break glass in case of emergency" rule....but now they use it all the time.

I see. I guess I almost forgot about Wisconsin and K-State playing "neutral" court games as the higher seed against teams that are far closer to the venue than they were.

So this scheduling alliance between the SEC and AAC is official but with a caveat:

The 4 teams not selected to play in the SEC/Big XII Challenge will be paired with 4 AAC schools.

That's a conference desperately trying to turn the P6 into a P7. Good for them. Good for those little guys.

Looking ahead to next season: Florida State and Pitt will play a season-opening league game on November 6.

By rule, the winner of that game will be the projected ACC champ for like 2 months in the brackets

Contrived made-for-TV events that cause the P6 to play more games against each other and less against the mid-majors :joker
